A Former Cltlaea of Cabarrns AToaaty Dies la AUaata, and is Bar led at His Home la Georgia Correspondence of the Observer. - John Wilson White was born in the Rocky River church community, Ca barms county, North Carolina, Septem ber 3rd, 1850. and died in Atlanta, Geor gia. March 26th. 1890 He was the son if John Hampton White and Margaret Ouery write. His only surviving rela lives are Mrs. Mary White Allison, wife of James Allison, or Davidson Coileare N. O , and one daughter, Miss Pearl now living with ber aunt in Fort Val ley, Ga. He was one of eight children the last of whom ia Mrs. Allison. Of this eight children five were boys, all of whom served in tne (Confederate army Three of them were killed on the field of battle, and one brought home who died six years afterwards irom the ef fects of wounds received in the war. Joh,n Wilson White, the subject of this sketch, was in the war only one year He was drafted with the sixteen-year old boys to ward 8 the close of the con rest. He was related to the Caldwell? Querys, Wilsons, Whites, Allisons sod Means, -who are some of the most prominent families of that section of country. At the age of twenty-three he left his native State and came to Georgia locating in Camilla. Here he met Miss Rentz, who afterwards became his wife. She died in June, 1882. This union was blessed with two children, one or whom, Miss Pearl, is now living He was engineer on the Savannah Florida & Western Railroad for the first four years of his residence in the State of his adoption From that posi tion he retired, to accept a situation with Mr. D. C. Joiner, of this place who conducts a large hardware busi oess. Mr. White was engaged in this business at his death. The relationship fhat existed between Mr White and Mr. Joiner was that of brother tc brother suggestive of the beautifu story of Jonathan and David of Holy Writ. Mr. White had been a continuous but patient sufferer since 1889, when he contracted the grippe in New York, where he had gone on business. This disease gradually grew into consumn tion, which was the final cause of his untimely demise. He had been con fined to his room a great deal for the past month and decided to go to Atlanta to avail himself of the skill of the phy sicians or tnat city, nopine to regain his wonted health. An anamhelio was administered to him preparatory to per forming a small operation. From the effects of the anaesthetic be never re covered. His remains were brought here, and the funeral services held in the Metho dist church. The stores were all closed and all the business men turned aside from their duties to pay the last sad rites over the body of the man whom in life they honored and whose death they sorely lamented. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J W. Ellis, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Mr. Beale, of Je&up, Ga. After the services at the church the body was given over to the Masons, who conducted it to Orange Hill Cemetery and laid it to rest with Masonic honors. A large concourse of people followed his remains to their oag resting place Early in life Mr. White connected himself with the Presbyterian Church, having "been brought up under pious Presbyterian parents. 8oon after mov- ng to Georgia, finding no Presbyterian church in bis town, and feeling that he could not live without the Ghurcb, he joined the Methodist ohurch in Ca milla, of which church he was icon- istent member until his death. He was prominent in church work. He was "fervent in spirit, diligent in busi ness, Berving the Lord. He was su perintendent of the Methodist Sunday chool six years and was a steward in the Methodist church at his death. The poor and needy have lost a gen erous and willing friend, the com munity a true and noble citizen, the Church a devoted and consistent mem ber, and his only survivingdaughter an affectionate and loving father.
